Biography
Middleton participated in the 1908 Summer Olympics in London during his national team tour. His team played the only match with the UK team that they won, and he became the Olympic champion. He also played for his national team against New Zealand during a 1910 tour, and then his team, with which he was captain, won all four matches.
Middleton also took part in the 1912 Summer Olympics in Stockholm in the eighth rowing competition. His crew went through the first round, but stopped at the quarter-finals, losing to future Olympic champions.
During World War I, Middleton voluntarily went to the front and participated in the Dardanelles operation and battles in France . For this, he was awarded the Order of Outstanding Merit and the Order of the British Empire .
