Career
He made his debut in the Italian championship on August 31, 1997 in a match against Inter in Milan (1: 2).
For the first time he played for the national team on November 7, 2001 in a friendly match against Japan in Saitama (1: 1). In that game, he scored a goal.
On August 4, 2011, Doni was disqualified for 3.5 years on charges of participating in contractual matches, and Atalanta was fined 6 points [2] [3] . Shortly afterwards, in an interview, the football player expressed indignation at his disqualification and stated that he was not related to match-fixing [4] . He later said:
I was a complete idiot. There is no excuse for what I did. I know I had to go to jail. Most of all, it hurts me because this scandal caused damage to my family and I disappointed Atalanta fans. Will I stay in Bergamo? This is my city. It will not be easy, but I want to stay. In the future I want to become a coach of Atalanta, but I understand that this is now impossible. I want to stay in the world of football [5]
