About the game
The main character is Nicholas Sharp, the captain of a small merchant ship owned by England, which is set sail for the first time. Before sailing, his mother gives him a medallion on which the image of his father is carved. The journey is unsuccessful and the Spaniards attack his ship, after which Nicholas faints and comes to his senses some time later, being a slave on the plantation. Later, he manages to escape from there. He takes 40 people with him and takes the ship away. From this moment the game begins.
At the very beginning of the game, the player has a choice: to enter the civil service of one of the powers on the archipelago, or to begin the construction of a new pirate state. And also, to a certain plot “feature”, the game and belonging to one or another can be alternated. Total powers in the game 3: England , France and Spain . The endings of the game do not differ much from each other depending on the choice made, but the events and plot, as well as the political picture of the archipelago, differ in the process of passing this or that line.
Gameplay
The game provides a number of game features: change of weather, sea battles and battle on land, traveling on an interactive map, dialogue system, trade, role-playing system.
- Change of weather
Moving on the map, the ship may fall into a storm, it may rain heavily, or fog will obscure the view (both heavy and light). The hero can swim at different times of the day. For example, leaving the interactive map mode for free swimming, you can quite by accident discover a foggy morning or a rainy evening around.
- Sea battle
It can take place both at sea and near islands, or even near coastal forts on the island . The battle is fought with 4 types of shells: nucleus , buckshot , bomber and bombs. Nuclei are best suited for piercing ships (or shelling fortresses), buckshot - in order to destroy the living force of an enemy team, a bomber - for disabling equipment and sails , and bombs - a universal type of shells. When a targeted state hits a ship, the Jolly Roger rises on your ship, the player loses his membership in the nation and becomes a pirate. The enemy ship can be destroyed or boarded . When boarding, it is possible to take all goods from the ship and put the ship to the bottom; or after victory, take it to yourself as a prize along with the cargo (if the amount of the remaining team is enough to manage both ships and the staff will have a free first assistant who will take the captured ship under control). While on deck, you can use the spyglass and find out more information about the surrounding ships.
- The battle
Each opponent of Nicholas can be both weaker than him, and stronger than him. To Nicholas could win, you need to improve skills. Improving skills can only be achieved after raising the level of the hero by capturing the fort, destroying ships and discovering new facts.
The combat system of the Corsairs is distinguished by the fact that the main character conducts all battles face to face with the captain of the enemy ship or the commander of the garrison of the fort. The health of both opponents is the size of the team. In this case, the strength of the blow depends both on the skills of the protagonist and on the ratio of the number of surviving team members. In this regard, there is always the opportunity to defeat a stronger opponent, but to do this you need to show agility and a good reaction.
And the battle itself takes place as follows: when boarding or capturing the fort, a short video is shown on which we see soldiers fighting, after which we meet the enemy and exchange blows. There are 4 beats - on the top right, on the top left, on the bottom left and on the bottom right, there is a button for each stroke, except for strokes it is also possible to put a block in accordance with the direction of the stroke, and each block direction also has its own key. In addition to blocks and strikes, a player and a computer adversary can make a feint: they can only indicate a strike, forcing the adversary to block an imaginary attack and open in another place. A blow to the block does either minor damage or does not do them at all, depending on the ratio of opposing teams.
- Death
In an unsuccessful battle, which ended not in favor of Captain Sharpe, the game will show a final video illustrating the latest pictures from the life of Captain Nicholas Sharpe. Depending on the circumstances of the death, the content of these videos may vary.
- Map
The hero is moved from city to city using an interactive map that opens on the high seas or upon arrival at the port.
- Cities
Each of the three nations in the game is located on many island cities in the archipelago, and the design of these cities varies depending on the state to which it belongs. Most of them, as a rule, have a shop and a tavern. In the main cities, in addition to the tavern and shop, there is a shipyard in which you can repair, buy and sell ships, as well as the governor’s palace, in which the player can obtain a corsair’s patent, however, in order to obtain a patent from the governor of an hostile state, you will first have to “disguise” as serving this state by purchasing state affiliation (flag) on the Skalshorz archipelago owned by pirates. Otherwise, you won’t be able to get an audience, because the fort guards will recognize the player as an enemy, open fire from cannons and he will not be able to land on the island without a fight.
- Hero Items Menu
It is divided into "Chest", " Hold ", "Ship", "Headquarters" and "Journal". “Chest” - received items are stored in it. Hold - shows the cargo (goods or shells) loaded on the player’s ship. Ship - shows ships that are in the player’s flotilla, including his ship, their characteristics and the degree of damage. Headquarters - shows the level, skills, experience of the hero, information about skills, information about the hired officers, and the number of people in the team. Magazine - here, one way or another, the hero writes down all the significant events that occur with him in the story.
- Officers
On the archipelago you can meet some characters who agree to travel with the captain, improving his characteristics, for a monthly fee. The following positions are provided on the ship: First Mate, Boatswain , Gunner , Carpenter , Treasurer and Ship Doctor. The officers are scattered across various islands and in order to assemble a complete team, the player will have to work hard, collecting full-fledged officers.
- Ships
The game has 43 ships [1] from 1st to 7th class. A player can get a 7th-class ship without guns by selling his ship at the shipyard. Increasing your level, you can use more powerful ships, including the 1st.
