BirdLife International (formerly the International Council for Bird Preservation ) is an international organization for the protection of birds and their habitat. It is a partnership of collaborating environmental non-governmental organizations.

The organization was founded in 1922 by American ornithologists Thomas Gilbert Pearson and Jean Theodore Delacour and was originally called the International Council for Bird Preservation . In 1993, the name of the company was changed to BirdLife International.
The organization is based in Cambridge , but has regional secretariats on all other continents. According to the charter, in each country she can have only one partner; as of July 2013, there were 121 of them, that is, representatives of 2/3 of the countries of the world. The Russian representative of BirdLife International from 1995 to 2009 was the Russian Bird Conservation Union [1] . Since 2005, in the status of an official partner of BirdLife International, the public association “Akhova ptushak Baskaўščiny” has been working [2] . In Kazakhstan, the representative of BirdLife International since 2010 and a full partner since 2015 is the Republican Public Association " Kazakhstan Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity " [3]
In 2007, BirdLife International launched a large-scale campaign to save endangered bird species. The project cost about $ 40 million.
The president of the organization today is Princess Takamado , a member of the Japanese imperial family.
