Description
Members of the family are small beetles that are between one and five millimeters in length (usually between 1.5 and 3 mm). The body of an adult beetle is flattened, the elytra is cellular and the antennae are elongated.
The larvae of some species of the genus Cryptolestes have silk glands. With the help of silk, they build themselves a cocoon in which the larva will pupate.
Ecology and habitats
Found in forests around the world, but most of them are common in tropical forests. They live under the bark of trees .
Power
Much of it feeds on mushrooms and some may be predators that hunt beetles living nearby. Some are significant pests of cereals.
