Velvet Goldmine is a David Bowie song recorded during the 1971 album The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars . The working title is He's a Goldmine , under which it was planned to be included in the album (on its second side). The song, however, was not included in the album. As Bowie himself explained in an interview in 1972, she was “ very David Bowie ” and had a “somewhat provocative” text [1] (which probably hints at Bowie’s relationship with another man ) The song was released without the knowledge of Bowie himself on the “B” side of the single Space Oddity in 1975 (along with the song Changes ). On this occasion, the singer was indignant: “The whole thing came out without me hearing the final version. Someone else mixed it - an extraordinary step! ”( Eng. The whole thing came out without my having a chance to listen to the mix. Somebody else had mixed it - an extraordinary move [2] ).

The song, although it appeared on the “B” side of the single, gained popularity and its name became the name of the film “ Velvet Goldmine ” (Bowie's music was supposed to sound in the movie, however, he forbade its use because he did not like the script).
