History of the Merchant Dynasty

Musa Apakov

The ancestor is the Crimean-Kazan Murza Apak, who switched to the service of the Russian Tsar in 1519. The merchant Apakov dynasty dates back to Musa Apakov. In the archives there is a mention of Suleiman Apakov, his brother Hamit Apakov and son David (Daoud) Apakov ( 1793 - 1847 ), his peer. Musa Apakov traded in manufacture , owned a shop in the ribbon of the Gostiny Dvor, and only a few merchants could afford it. Most of the shops belonged to the city and were leased.

After Musa’s death, his family did not declare capital, and she was ranked among the “merchant Tatars” - an estate equated to the middle class. After the Manifesto of 1824, the number of merchant capital increased significantly. Among the merchants who entered the third guild again were the Apakovs. The widow of Musa Apakova Makhbuba Rafikovna was considered the owner of family capital, in reality, her sons carried on the trading business. At the inn in Sennaya Square, they traded raw leather. But, as they did not declare capital, they were again transferred from merchants to philistines. Only one of his sons, Khusain, later engaged in active trade, established trade relations with Astrakhan .

The merchant family of the Apakovs was continued by the eldest son of Musa - Iskhak Musaevich

Iskhak Musaevich

The merchant family of the Apakovs was continued by Musa's eldest son, Iskhak Musaevich, who in 1825 joined the third guild. In the family shop in Gostiny Dvor, he traded in paper and silk fabrics, and in the shop in a leather row sold raw leather.

Iskhak Musaevich is the most prominent representative of the second generation of the merchant Apakov dynasty. Thanks to his talent and successful commercial and industrial activities, the Apakovs emerged as the largest and most influential merchants. Iskhak Musaevich was repeatedly elected to the City Duma and the Tatar Town Hall, was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Yunusovsky Shelter, had two gold medals from the government as a manufacturer , who put two hundred thousand more arshins of fabric in excess of the norm. He helped his grandson, Yakup Abdreshitovich, open a dish factory. Ishaq was in the first guild for ten years and received the title of hereditary honorary citizen. This title was inherited by his sons who were in the same capital.

After the death of Iskhak Musayevich, his sons divided the capital , and each started his own business: Ibrahim and Ishmael entered the first guild, Shaih-Gattar and Bakhty-Garey in the second, and the elder sons Abdreshit and Mustafa entered the third guild.

Ishmael Iskhakovich

The brother of Ibrahim Apakov, Izmail ( 1821 - 1885 ), a hereditary honorary citizen of Kazan, was a merchant for more than thirty years. He traded in manufactory, grain, and in the 70-80s he was one of the largest grain merchants in Kazan , he made bricks, bought land, buildings, and built apartment buildings.

With his wife Bibi Gaisha Gubeidulovna Yunusova and son Mukhamet Shah Sultan ( 1853 - 1918 ?), Ishmael lived on Voskresenskaya (Kremlin) street in the very center of the city.

Ishmael owned houses on the streets of Gostinodvorskaya, Baturin, Cross-Sennaya (now - 10 Paris Commune Street). The latter became one of the largest apartment buildings in the Tatar part of the city.

Ishmael was an educated person, was a full member of the Imperial Kazan Economic Society, which in those days meant not only financial assistance to society, but also practical activities aimed at developing the economy of the region. He was a permanent honorary foreman of a Muslim orphanage, included, like Ibrahim, on the list of jurors of the Kazan district court .

Ibrahim Iskhakovich

Ibrahim Apakov, the son of Iskhak Apakov, was born in 1822 . From birth, hereditary honorary citizen of Kazan . He started his own business after the death of his father, entering, like his brother, Ishmael, in the first guild of the merchants. Ibrahim traded in the Gostiny Dvor manufactory, maintained contact with Orenburg , Bukhara , went to Russian fairs.

He was also a major owner of real estate in Kazan. He owned houses stretching a block from Malaya to Bolshaya Prolomnaya (now Profsoyuznaya and Bauman) along Astronomicheskaya Street. Ibrahim involved in the trade and his son-in-law - he opened a store for the sale of office supplies on Voskresenskaya (now Kremlin) Street. Ibrahim later moved to the second guild.
