Post-transfusion shock is the result of massive breakdown of red blood cells . It is characterized by a sharp violation of blood circulation, especially in the kidneys, inhibition of metabolic processes. Large changes occur in the urine : its color is brownish-black, its amount decreases, and anuria often occurs.
Symptoms: a significant deterioration in well-being, tightness in the chest, fever with chills, nausea , vomiting , pain in the head, stomach, sensation of heat in the whole body, heart rate, dyspnea. After a couple of hours, the condition may improve, but then the clinical picture of acute renal failure - acute uremia . The kidneys and liver are affected, acidosis appears due to a violation of the acid-base balance, the water-electrolyte balance changes, the content of blood nitrogen rises sharply, hypertension appears, and jaundice appears by the end of the day.
The main pathogenetic factor of this condition is spastic contraction of the renal vessels with subsequent damage to the renal tissue.
