Content
Biography
He participated in the Great Patriotic War , was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree , medals for military merit , for the victory over Germany and for the victory over Japan . [2]
From 1977 to 1991, Dobrovolsky was the editor-in-chief of the Soil Science series of the journal Vestnik Moscow University , and from 1987 , the soil science scientific journal.
Since June 11, 1994 - Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Under the leadership of Dobrovolsky, 35 candidate and 14 doctoral dissertations were defended. At the Faculty of Soil Science of Moscow State University, he gave a course of lectures on geography, as well as classification and taxonomy of soils, in recent years he taught the course “History and Methodology of Soil Science”.
Scientific activity
His research interests included: genesis, morphology, geography and cartography of soils, their classification, evolution, environmental functions, general problems of the theory and history of soil science. Dobrovolsky justified the method of sequential mineralogical-micromorphological studies of soil genesis, revealed the theoretical foundations of the genesis of alluvial soils, developed their classification and recommendations for rational use. Together with E. D. Nikitin in 1986 - 1990 he developed the concept of ecological and genetic functions of soils in the biosphere.
