Domestic priority in the history of the rally belongs to the run in tsarist Russia on August 14-18, 1909 along the route Petersburg-Riga-Petersburg with a length of 1177 km. Its organizer was SPAK (St. Petersburg Automobile Club), with the support of RAO (Russian Automobile Society) and the Baltic Club of Motorists.

Almost 50 years after these events, in the summer of 1955, the first Soviet rallies took place in St. Petersburg, and the first USSR championship took place in 1958, as well as the first start of Soviet crews at the Thousand Lakes international rally in Finland.
In 1959, team winter rallies arose in the Baltic States, in which not a crew gets points, but a team of several cars (the principle is "start by first, finish by last").
The Russian Rally Championship is a rally series held under the auspices of the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) [3] since 1992. She replaced the USSR Rally Championship , held in 1958-1991. Passes on the territory of the Russian Federation and the CIS countries .
Russian Rally Championship - held annually (from January to October) and consists of 6-9 stages that take place in various parts of the country, from Karelia to the Urals (Karelia, Vyborg, Gukovo, Novorossiysk, Pskov, etc.)
- Russian Cup - 13-15 stages

General Information
Rally in Russia
This is a sports car competition that takes place wholly or mainly on public roads. The rally consists of either one route common to all cars or several routes converging in one predetermined place, which may or may not follow the general route. A route may include one or more special sections, i.e. competitions held on roads that are closed to the public and which together determine the overall results of the rally. Routes not used for special sections are called road sections, where speed can never be a determining factor for classification.
The sports code of the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) identifies the championship as a competition, according to the results of which the title of Champion of Russia is awarded. In order to become a winner, you must take part in all stages and score more points.
In the championship of Russia, any crew acting on a car prepared according to sports law can take part.
Outside of Russia, no more than one stage of the Russian championship can take place if the following requirements are met:
- the country in whose territory the stage is being held has a common border with Russia; - technical and sports regulations of the championship are approved by the International Automobile Federation (IAF); - The route on which this stage is held is registered and approved by the IAF on safety and medical care.
The main regulatory document for the organization and conduct of rally competitions of the first category included in the IAF sports calendar, held in accordance with the IAF International Sports Code (IAC), is a document called Rally Rules and Rules issued by the Motorsport Federation every year.
