The indicator on fluorescent glasses is a not widely used type of segment indicator , which uses the following phenomenon: if a phosphor is impregnated in the thickness of a sheet of transparent material impregnated with phosphor (for example, sodium fluorescein ), then its luminescence will be observed most intensely from the end of the sheet.

In the USSR , landmark indicators were produced on fluorescent glasses of the types TsIF-1, TsIF-2, TsIF-3, TsIF-5 [1]. All of them are nine-segment, with traced digits displayed as on a zip code . Indicators, depending on the modification, have a red or yellow glow. The fluorescent glasses in them are illuminated with interchangeable miniature incandescent bulbs of types SM-39 or SM6. There is little blue light that can excite the phosphor in the spectrum of incandescent lamps, but this is compensated for by the fact that the glasses transmit the radiation from the lamps to their ends and directly, like ordinary light guides . Indicators differ in the height of the sign and the presence of a built-in control circuit. Indicators TsIF-1 and TsIF-2 have a sign with a height of 118 mm, TsIF-3 - 275 mm, TsIF-5 - 450 mm. The indicator TsIF-2 contains a built-in control circuit, the rest do not have it. All indicators are made in a plastic case and are connected to external devices using RP-10-15 connectors.

There is no information about surviving copies of these indicators, but the available information is sufficient for self-made by amateurs of technical antiquity of indicators that are similar in principle to their operation.
