Biography
Janusz Psimanowski was born on January 20, 1922 in Warsaw, where he studied at the Gymnasium named after Stefan Zheromsky. In September 1939, the 17-year-old Janusz left to fight as a volunteer without finishing school (he received a certificate of maturity in 1940 at school No. 21 in Brest).
After the defeat of Poland, he was interned as a serviceman of the Polish army in the USSR , kept in prison, then worked in basalt quarries, at a metallurgical plant and finally a tractor driver in Siberia . In 1943, he volunteered for the Red Army and was enrolled in the 1st Corps of the Armed Forces of Poland in the USSR. He completed the combat journey in Warsaw.
Since 1945 he worked as a military journalist, editor of military publications, was an officer in the main political department of the Polish Army. He made friends in the war with the officer of the Soviet Army A.S. Deminov , who later died during the liberation of Poland.
In 1959-1961 he graduated from the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw.
Community Activities
After the war he joined the Polish United Workers' Party (PUWP). In 1962-1964 - Chairman of the Warsaw Voivodship Committee of the PUWP. In 1980–85, he was a deputy of the Sejm. In this capacity, he actively supported the introduction of martial law and made sharp attacks on Solidarity, which, according to him, allegedly prepared a copy of the list of “whom and in what order to hang on the streetlights,” which included 6-year-old children [1] . For many years he was a member of the main council of the Union of Fighters for Freedom and Democracy , in 1988 - 1990 - a member of the Council for the Protection of the Memory of Struggle and Martyrdom . In 1987, he wrote the book “Memory”, to which he immortalized the names of Polish and Soviet soldiers who died during the liberation of Poland.
Creativity
He made his debut as a writer in 1950 with a book about the exploits of the Poles during the Second World War. Subsequently, he continued the theme of war in his works. In the early 1960s , co-authored with Ovid Gorchakov, wrote the book “ Calling Fire on ourselves ” about the courage and heroism of Soviet and Polish underground workers operating in the Seshcha village . In 1965, a four-episode film shot on this book by film director Sergei Kolosov was shown on television.
In 1964 - 1970 he wrote the novel " Four Tankers and a Dog ", according to which a three-part television series of the same name was shot in Poland in 21 parts. Sam starred in this series in the cameo role of the photographer in the last series of the film.
In 1966 he wrote a documentary story "Studzyanki" about the tank battle between the Poles and Germans at the town of Studzyanka .
