First issues
1963 Compilation
From 1925 to 1932, a monthly magazine was published under the same name in the USSR . In continuation of its traditions, the new collection, which first appeared in 1963, was called upon to become a full-fledged philatelic publication, on the pages of which information on the most important events in the life of collectors of the country would be published, research papers would be published, and the experience of collection work in the Soviet Union and abroad was generalized.
The initiative group at the Moscow City Society of Collectors stood at the origins of the collection, which at that time was the advanced organized part of the Soviet philatelists and adherents of other basic types of collecting. In various cities of the USSR, then there were more than one hundred city and regional societies, uniting about 200 thousand collectors, and therefore the need for such philatelic publications was felt very sharply [4] .
To prepare the "Soviet Collector" a public editorial board was formed. The collection was prepared for publication at the State Publishing House of Literature on Communications and Radio (Svyazizdat), put on the set on February 20, 1963, and signed for publication on July 10 of the same year. It was printed on paper in 70 × 90/16 format, in a paperback, with a print run of 15,000 copies.
In an appeal to readers, which opened the first issue, it was said [5] :
| The public editorial office, created by the Moscow City Society of Collectors, is pleased to bring to your attention a collection of articles on various issues of philately, philocarty, numismatics, bonistics, phylum. <...> “Collectors are happy people," Goethe said. We are pleased to share with you the happiness of our leisure time, and our joy will increase if you share our passion. |
The public editorial board of the "Soviet Collector" included a number of well-known and experienced philatelists:
- B. Stalbaum - Executive Editor,
- Members of the Editorial Board:
- V. Bogdanov,
- P. Disson (Executive Secretary),
- L. Lepeshinsky (chairman of the IGOK),
- M. Milkin ,
- D. Moshnyagin ,
- M. Nero,
- V. Skripitsyn (Deputy Executive Editor),
- E. Feinstein .
The editorial office was located at the MGOK: Moscow , K-9, st. Gorky , 12, Moscow City Society of Collectors, Public Editorial [5] .
