Locomotives

• 36 BM72 in a composite of 4 units, used in the vicinity of Oslo and Stavanger .
• 16 BM73 long-haul in a composition of 4 units, used on the lines Bergensbanen , Dovrebanen and Sørlandsbanen .
• 6 BM73b long-distance in the composition of 4 units, used on the line Østfoldbanen .

Diesel trains

• 14 BM92 , consisting of 2 units, for operation on suburban lines in the vicinity of Trondheim , on the Rørosbanen line
• 15 BM93 long distance in a composition of 2 units, used on the lines Rørosbanen , Nordlandsbanen and Raumabanen .

Rail buses

• 3 Y1 are used on the Bratsbergbanen line between the cities of Skien and Notodden .

The first two letters in the name of the rolling stock indicate its type:

• El : electric locomotive
• Di : diesel locomotive
• Skd : Shunting Locomotive
• BM : MVPS

The numbers following the letter abbreviation denote the serial number. The El and Di locomotives are numbered in chronological order since their order for the Norwegian railways. For electric MIPS, numbers start from 62, for diesel ones - from 83. After the serial number, the number indicates that it belongs to a particular line. It is unique to each rolling stock unit and consists of three or four digits.

Traditionally, NSB locomotives and electric locomotives were painted green, but in 1970 this color was replaced with red. Body shunting locomotives began to paint in yellow, and their cabins - in red. In the late 1990s - early 2000s, a new color scheme was introduced using several colors. Long-distance trains began to paint in blue and silver, regional - in red and silver, suburban - in green and silver. Freight trains were handed over to the subsidiary CargoNet and painted gray, the Airport Express trains were painted white and silver, and the Flåmsbana tourist trains received green.
