Biography

Born in the city of Proskurov (now Khmelnitsky) , now a city in Ukraine .

Father - Nikolai Fedorovich Fedorov (1896 - 06.24.1971 [2] ) - the red commander , the hero of the Civil War , began as a blacksmith at the Putilov factory , then participated in the First World War and the Civil War [3] ; in 1935 he graduated with honors from the MV Frunze Military Academy and at the same time was appointed commander of the 28th Cavalry Division ; Commander of the Order of the Red Star (1936), member of the CPSU (b) (since 1920). NF Fedorov was arrested in 1938, on June 21, 1939, by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court of the USSR, he was sentenced to 15 years of imprisonment in the ITL (participation in a military conspiracy), serving a sentence in Kolyma. Released in 1953 [2] .

Mother - Alexandra Danilovna, by nationality - half Belarusian , half Polish [3] .

After the arrest of the father, the family moved to Novocherkassk . In October 1941, an urgent evacuation was announced, and Alexandra Danilovna and her son left for Yerevan . In 1944, Fedorov entered an artillery special school, but he was soon transferred to an air force special school in Rostov-on-Don . Learned to learn only about a year. In March 1945, Fedorov hurried to the festive evening at the school and, unsuccessfully jumping from the tram , lost his left foot [3] [4] .

In 1945 he entered the medical faculty and in 1952 graduated from the Rostov State Medical Institute .

From 1952-1955 lived in Lysva Molotov (Perm) region, working as a surgeon in a local hospital.

In 1958, in the Rostov State Medical Institute, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of medical sciences on the theme “Nipple of the optic nerve and blind spot for diseases of the central nervous system”.

After defending his dissertation, he came to Cheboksary to head the clinical department of the Cheboksary branch of the State Institute of Eye Diseases. Helmholtz . I was interested in the scientific problem of implantation of artificial lenses.

The first artificial lenses in the USSR, commissioned by Svyatoslav Fyodorov, as a foreman of production Semyon Milman, made of plastic , were implanted into rabbits in 1959 in the kitchen of an ophthalmologist's service apartment [5] .

In 1960, while continuing to work in Cheboksary , for the first time in the USSR he carried out a successful operation on implanting an artificial crystalline lens, the experiment received wide publicity, and Fedorov was removed from his post. Thanks to the intervention of journalist Anatoly Agranovsky, the physician was restored [6] .

In 1961-1967 he headed the Department of Eye Diseases at the ASMI in Arkhangelsk . Then he was transferred to Moscow, where he headed the department of eye diseases and the problem laboratory for implantation of an artificial lens in the 3rd Moscow Medical Institute. In the same year, Fedorov began to implant an artificial cornea.

In 1962, together with the ophthalmic surgeon Valery Zakharov, he created the Fedorov-Zakharov lens, one of the best rigid artificial lenses in the world [7] .

In 1967, in the Kazan State Medical Institute. SV Kurashova defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences on the topic "Correction of unilateral aphakia with intraocular lenses."

In the summer of 1967, 43 km of the Leningrad highway was in a car accident. After a head-on collision with a ZIL truck, one of the two satellites was killed. In 1971, a second accident occurred - a head-on collision with the "Volga", five days after which Fedorov was already able to go to work [8] .

In 1973, he developed and was the first in the world to have an operation for the treatment of glaucoma in its early stages. His method of deep sclerectomy has been recognized internationally and has been used to treat glaucoma throughout the world [4] .

In 1974, the laboratory was separated from the institute and became the Moscow Research Laboratory of Experimental and Clinical Eye Surgery (MNILEKHG); in 1979, the Moscow Research Institute of Eye Microsurgery (MRI MG) was organized on its basis, which was headed by Fedorov. In 1986, the institute was reorganized into the Eye Microsurgery Interdisciplinary Scientific and Technical Complex :

MNTK rights for that time were unprecedented. He had a currency account, could serve foreign clients, independently set the number of employees and the size of their salaries, and also engage in business outside of medicine (for example, agriculture). Fedorov actively led the construction of branches throughout the country - they were opened 11 - and abroad (in Italy, Poland, Germany, Spain, Yemen, United Arab Emirates). Ophthalmologic clinic for the first time in the world was equipped on the sea vessel "Peter the First", sailing in the Mediterranean Sea and the Indian Ocean [4] .

In December 1987, he was elected Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the Department of Physiology.

In 1989-1991 he was the people's deputy of the USSR . Actively engaged in political campaigning. He was a member of the editorial board of the magazine Ogonek. He headed the Party of self-government workers . In 1995 he was elected to the State Duma . In 1996 he put forward his candidacy in the presidential elections in Russia , scored 0.92% of the vote.

... Wage labor must be banned everywhere. But the tariff rates existing in our state do not reflect either the quality of concrete labor or its quantity. No one ... sees no feedback between his work and the realized end product. [eight]

In April 1995 he was elected a full member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.

On June 2, 2000, he was killed in a plane crash: the Eurocopter Gazelle helicopter belonging to the clinic, where Fedorov was returning from a conference from Tambov , crashed into a wasteland in the Bratsev region, near the Moscow Ring Road [9] [10] . On board were four people: Fedorov himself and his pilot Anatoly Lobov - in the front seats; from behind — Anver Husainov, who served as navigator, and Alexander Spiridonov, engineer, Eye Microsurgery Scientific and Technical Complex. All four died. According to the IAC , the cause of the crash was a technical malfunction of the helicopter [11] .

st. Neris Salome, 14
