Biography
Twachtman began to study painting under the leadership of Frank Duvenek . In 1875, he, like other young American artists, left to continue his education in Europe. He studied at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts , then lived in Venice . He painted mostly landscapes.
After a short stay in the United States, the artist again arrives in Europe. He continues his studies in Paris (in 1883-85). Here they master the skill of Twachtman, the possession of color with all its shades. In 1886, the master returns to his homeland and lives on a farm near Greenwich in Connecticut . The farm itself, its house, garden and vegetable garden are repeatedly reflected in the landscape paintings of Tvakhtman, on which the artist creates his own individual, impressionistic style.
From 1889 until his death, Tvakhtman taught painting at the Art Student League courses. He was part of the impressionist group Ten American Artists created in 1897 in New York .
Died August 8, 1902 in Gloucester. Buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery City Cemetery [4] .
