The film is dedicated to events related to the activities of Franco Bazagli - director of the psychiatric hospital of Gorizia and the initiator of the law that bears his name and made a revolution in the idea of the mentally ill. Most of the characters in the film are people who actually worked or spent part of their lives in the psychiatric hospitals of Gorizia and Trieste [1] [2] . Franco Bazaglia was played by Remo Girona , the wife of Franco Bazaglia - Frank Ongaro was played by Victoria Dzinni [3] .
“The film shows a real struggle,” explains Basalie’s associate, 87-year-old child psychiatrist Professor Giovanni Bollea. - Trying to change the internal organization of the institution, Franco realized that this was impossible. In the institution, among the staff, among the doctors, there were opponents. They had to leave. However, the issue of adult mentally ill is still open, as Law 180, which would provide for the creation of social support structures, is lacking. Remained are former psychiatric hospitals, which look like a concentration camp with an eerie appearance of deserted and abandoned buildings. A useful film to understand that much remains to be done ” [1] .
According to the director of the film, Silvano Agosti, the film should be given the name "Wall",

Story
The man in the clothes of the delivery man, who later turns out to be the new director of the psychiatric hospital in Gorizia , has an idea of the conditions in which the patients of the psychiatric hospital live. In the course of electroconvulsive therapy , lobotomy , straitjackets , beatings and locking. Mentally ill people are in distress.
Taking the place of the director, he takes risks in order to change the role assigned to doctors and orderlies, and to improve the living conditions of patients. He opens the door to a large hospital garden, where previously patients were forbidden to walk, and finally offers to tear down the wall separating the patients from society. Then there is a demolition of the wall.
... for I wanted to tell about an extraordinary moment when Bazaglia asked 1200 of his patients to break the wall by which people recognized the psychiatric hospital, and I created this story telling about these amazing heroes who decided to break the physical barrier that separates them from the outside world, hoping unjustifiably that all other barriers would collapse [4] ... I called the film “The Second Shadow”, because this hero made a deep impression on me, look at the result of the 250 years of the existence of psychiatric hospitals: “When doctors and orderlies me When they lived, pretending to be treated, I took refuge in my second shadow and already felt nothing. ” And what is, in all likelihood, a second shadow? This is a destiny that has not been realized and is not realized in the life of every person; I would be extremely pleased if people asked themselves at least every month or every week: “Do I live according to my purpose, which I have been destined for and which I would like to fulfill with my life?” I would be extremely glad if the majority would say yes; while I think that everything is arranged in such a way that it is almost impossible to answer “yes” [4] .
When doctors and orderlies tortured me, pretending to be treated, I took refuge in my second shadow and felt nothing [4] .
