Biography
Johann Holtermann was born in Hamburg. As a child, he studied under the guidance of Bernhard Romberg , then studied the cello in Dresden with Friedrich August Kummer . For some time he was the first cello of the Hamburg Opera , then in 1850 - 1862 . lived and worked in Prague . As an ensemble performer, he participated in the premiere of BedΕich Smetana 's Piano Trio Op. 15 December 3, 1855 (with violinist Anton Bennevitz and author in the piano part). He taught at the Prague Conservatory , where among his students were Alois Neruda and David Popper , who later dedicated his first cello concert, Op, to Holterman. 8. In 1862 - 1870 the first cello of the Stuttgart Court Orchestra. He retired in 1870.
The original compositions for cello attributed to some sources by Julius Holterman are in fact owned by his namesake George Holterman .
