Lugansk Uyezd was formed on September 5 (16), 1778 [1] [2] from the outlying lands of the Sevsky Uyezd with the accession of parts of Karachevsky and Kromsky Uyezds. The newly formed county covered the remaining territory of the Sevsky district from the north-west, north and east. At the same time, the county town of Lugan was located in the northwestern part of the county and was far removed from its eastern part.
This irrational location of the county center was one of the reasons for the abolition of the city of Lugani on June 25 ( July 6 ), 1782 and the appointment of the former village of Dmitrovka (now the city of Dmitrovsk ) as the county town [2] [3] .
In 1797, Dmitrovsky district was merged with Sevsky , and in 1802 it was re-formed, but already in different borders. So the territory of the former Lugansk district was divided between these two counties.
Now the territory of the former Lugansk district is part of the Bryansk and Oryol regions ( Brasovsky , Komarichsky , Dmitrovsky districts).
