The Eutifron dilemma is one of the problems of philosophy in the form of a dilemma . It is based on the dialogue " Eutifron " of Plato and is formulated as follows:
Do the gods choose good because it is good, or does good choose good because they are chosen by the gods? [one]
- When recognizing the true first part of the dilemma, it turns out that human morality is formed independently of the gods.
- If the second is recognized as true, the gods are the primary source of morality, and could proclaim as good anything, that is, morality is the subject of a random whim of the gods.
Used by atheists as a rationale for the thesis that morality does not depend on religion. [2]
