Biography

Origin

As long as there are three versions of the origin of Ingvar The Traveler:

  • According to the Ingvar Voyager Saga, Ingvar is the son of Varyag Eymund, who was born to Aki and the daughter of the Swedish king Eirik the Victorious [2] . (The version is supported by Otto von Friesen and Elena Melnikova ).
  • According to the stones U 513 , U 540 , Sö 179 and Sö 279 Ingvar is the son of the Swedish king Eymund the Old and the grandson of Olaf Schetkönung [3] . This version violates the chronology of the narrative and the connection of the characters of the Saga of the Ingvar Traveler . ( Version put forward by F. Braun ).
  • Based on the dating of Ingvar's Stones (early 11th century), proposed by Elias Wessén and Sune Lindquist, a version of the existence of Prince Eymund was put forward. According to this version, Ingvar is the son of the Swedish Prince Eymund, the brother of Olaf Schetkönung and the son of Eirik the Victorious [4] . ( The version put forward by Lauritz Weibull (1911) and J. Svennung (1966) ).

Disputes about the origins of Ingvar arose as early as the 13th — 14th centuries, when the Ingvar Traveler Saga was written about . Writing it down, at the end of the text he added from himself:

But we know that some saga narrators say that Ingvar was the son of Enund Olavsson, because it seems to them that he will be honored if he is called the son of King.

Childhood [7]

Possible year of birth of Ingvar - 1010 year [8] .

In The Ingvar The Traveler Saga, there is only one episode from Ingvar’s childhood story about how he and Anund, the son of Olaf Šyotkönung, reconciled the father of Ingvar Eymund and King Olaf .

Trekking [7]

Growing up, Ingvar began to seek the title of king from Olaf Shyotkounung . When he refused, Ingvar went to Gardariki and set out on a campaign south to the lands of the Abbasids along the river routes.

During the expedition, he converts some nations and countries to Christianity, takes part in an internecine war allegedly in Georgia, allegedly faces the Greeks and “Greek fire”, loses many of his people and dies from the disease. He is buried in the Citopolis ( Citopolim ) according to Christian customs in a specially built chapel for burial.

According to the Ingvar Voyage Saga, a part of Ingvar's ships returned to Sweden, and Ingvar Svein’s son repeated his father’s campaign, married Silkisiv and strengthened Christianity in her kingdom, and then returned to Sweden. Of all the 26 “Ingvar Stones” that have come down to us, not one mentions the return of Ingvar from the campaign. All of them, as a rule, end up similarly to the Harald stone:

 ... dou sunnarla a Særklandi.
