Selwyn ( English Selwyn Range ) is a mountain range located in the northwestern part of the Australian state of Queensland . It stretches from the Great Dividing Range to the West Australian Plateau . Separates the Carpentaria Bay pool from the Eyre Lake Basin. [1] It is composed mainly of the metamorphic rocks of the Proterozoic epoch. In the northern part of the ridge are the sources of the Williams and Fallarton Rivers , flowing into the Gulf of Carpentaria, and in the south - the McKinley River, also flowing into the Gulf of Carpentaria.

On the territory of the ridge there are large deposits of copper , gold , lead and zinc . The climate is varied: from tropical monsoon to semi-arid, with unstable precipitation falling mainly in the summer months. Vegetation on the ridge is represented by low-lying eucalyptus and spinifex meadows.
