Career

Bengal began his career in 1925 at the Palestra Italy club from his hometown of Belo Horizonte . When he joined the team, one of his first words was:

"I'm leaving here only when I die," [2]

Shortly after joining, Bengal became one of the players in the club’s main squad, playing as the center and left striker , playing under 10 and 11 numbers. In total, Bengal spent 247 matches for Palestra and scored 168 goals, having won 3 Minas Gerais championships with the club [3] .

Immediately after the player’s career ended, Fratozzi led the club, leading him to win the state championship. In 1943, he did not work long with Botafogo , and then returned to Palestra, which by then was renamed Cruzeiro. In total, under his leadership, Cruzeiro spent 126 matches, of which 60 won, 24 tied and 42 lost [1] . The last coaching experience of Bengal was the team of the state of Minas Gerais . After that, Bengal remained in the Cruzeiro, working there until the end of his life in 1980, when he died of a heart attack [1] .
