Biography
He graduated from the Faculty of Geology, Geochemistry and Geophysics. Moscow Institute of Petrochemical and Gas Industry. I. M. Gubkina - now the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I. M. Gubkin, specialty geophysical methods of prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits (1959), mining engineer geophysicist [3] . In 1965, he defended his thesis “Application of mass spectrometry to study the influence of surface leaching processes on the carbon isotope composition of carbonates” for the degree of candidate of geological-mineralogical sciences [4] , having received it in the same year. In 1970 he defended his doctoral thesis "Geochemistry of stable carbon isotopes" [5] .
He began his career as an engineer in the Special Geophysics Trust of the USSR Ministry of Geology (1959–1960) [3] . From 1960 to 1963, Head of the Caspian Geophysical Expedition in Western Kazakhstan [3] . Since 1959, a researcher at the Department of Field Geophysics, and in 1966-1972, the head of the problem laboratory of mass spectrometry alma mater, its organizer [6] . Since 1973, the Head of the Laboratory of Carbon Geochemistry at the GEOKHI of the USSR Academy of Sciences, which he created at the suggestion of Academician A. P. Vinogradov [3] , and in 1992–2015 the Director of the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. V.I. Vernadsky of the Russian Academy of Sciences (GEOKHI), currently his supervisor [7] . Since 1993, a professor at Moscow State University, reads a course in carbon geochemistry.
Academician of RAS (1994) in the Department of Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry and Mining Sciences. Member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (2002–2013), member of the Bureau of the Earth Sciences Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences , member of the Section of Geosciences Chairman of the Committee on Meteorites of the Russian Academy of Sciences ; Chairman of the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Geochemistry Problems; President of the International Association of Geochemistry and Cosmochemistry (2000-2004) [8] .
Editor-in-chief of the journal Geochemistry (since 2005), member of the editorial board of international journals Astrobiology, Chemical Geology, Isotopes in Health and Environmental Studies .
In 1990 he led an oceanographic expedition on the research vessel Akademik Boris Petrov [3] .
Honorary Professor of Moscow State University . M. V. Lomonosov [9] [ when? ] . Honorary member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Bashkortostan (2002). Academician of the Academy of Mining Sciences. Foreign member of the Academy of Science and Literature in Mainz (Germany) [10] (1998).
Wife - Galina Dmitrievna , theater critic. Daughters Daria , TV host, and Alexandra, brand director of Tatler magazine.
Scientific Activities
The main works are on the isotope-geochemical study of organic matter and mathematical modeling of the evolution of sedimentary basins, the origin of diamonds, the origin and chemical evolution of the Earth, the origin of the Moon . He developed an isotopic fractional method for identifying source rocks that gave rise to the formation of oil deposits. He put forward an experimentally confirmed hypothesis about the formation of diamonds during cavitation processes in fast-flowing magma.
Founder ( 1990 ) and Head of the Global Carbon Cycles „Mantle - Bark - Ocean - Atmosphere“ scientific school, initiator and head of the Moon research and substance delivery programs from Phobos .
The author of more than 500 scientific publications, monographs (3 reprinted in the USA), one discovery (“Nuclear Spin Isotope Effect”, together with A. L. Buchachenko , Yu. N. Molin and R. Z. Sagdeev ) has several inventions. Monographs: “Geochemistry of stable carbon isotopes” ( 1968 ), “Carbon isotopes in oil and gas geology” ( 1973 ), “Studies of organic matter and gases in ocean bottom sediments” ( 1976 ), “The nature of biological isotope fractionation” ( 1984 ), “Phenomenon of life. Between balance and nonlinearity. The origin and principles of evolution "( 2001 )," Designs and miscalculations. Fundamental space research in Russia of the last twenty years. Twenty years of fruitless efforts ”( 2010 , 2nd ed., Ext. 2013 ).
