Catamnesis (from other Greek. Κατα- - prefix, here denoting the completion of the action, and μνημονεύω - I recall) - all medical information about the patient , collected once or repeatedly after the end of the initial observation over him. The follow-up is made after discharge from the hospital , the last examination, any treatment, or after a certain period of time.
Sources for collecting follow-up data are data from a medical examination, conversations with the patient, extracts from the medical history , as well as information received from relatives and friends of the patient. Follow-up data are important in all areas of clinical medicine, but are most valuable in psychiatry . Follow-up allows you to analyze the medical history of mental patients throughout the course of the disease, taking into account the treatment.
The term was first used by the German psychiatrist Hagen (1814-1888).
