He took part in the Dumont-Durville expedition to the South Pole, the purpose of which was to study the outskirts of Antarctica . The trip lasted from 1837 to 1840. Ombron worked on board the Astrolabe and Zele (Zealous) as a ship surgeon.
Together with zoologist Onore Jacquinot (1815-1887), he described numerous species of plants and animals.
