Simon Birch is a 1998 American feature film based on John Irving ’s novel, “ Prayer for Owen Mini .” Film director Mark Stephen Johnson also wrote the script, omitting most of the second half of the novel and changing the ending. The name of the film differs from the book at the request of Irving, who did not believe that this novel could be successfully filmed - he proposed the name "Simon Birch" in exchange for Owen Mini. The plot of the film revolves around 12-year-old Joe Wentworth and his best friend Simon Birch.

Story
The film is based on the novel by American writer John Irving entitled “Prayer for Owen Mini.” Two boys grow up in the American town. One, Joe, whose father is unknown, belongs to the family of founders of the city. And the second is a very small boy with a strange name - Simon Birch. Simon is so small that even to hit a ball with a baseball bat is a problem for him. When he finally manages to do this, he accidentally kills the mother of his best friend with the ball. This is a film about friendship, about growing up, about faith, about a feat.
