International Children's Day

Opponents of abortion chose this day to hold campaigns in defense of the right of unborn children to life. In various countries of the world ( USA ^[1] , Czech Republic ^[2] , Lithuania ^[3] , Belarus ^[4] , etc.) they gather on June 1 or one of the coming days to draw the attention of the general public to the problem of abortion.

In Russia, anti-abortion campaigns are also held, such as a rally ^{[5] [6]} , a procession ^[5] , a march ^{[5] [7]} , a meeting ^{[8] [9] [10]} , a prayer service ^{[7] [8]} , picket ^{[5] [11] [12]} , watching films with subsequent discussion ^{[7] [8]} , distribution of information materials ^{[5] [13] [7] [8]} , suspension of abortions by medical institutions ^{[14] [15]} and others ^{[16] [17]} .

In 2016, Patriarch Kirill dedicated a special appeal to the International Children's Day calling for donations to support women in crisis situations ^[18] . On May 29, on the last Sunday of the month, it was read out in each church, accompanied by fundraising for the creation of humanitarian aid centers for women expecting a child ^[19] . Fundraising, which took place throughout the country, brought 38 million rubles, which should go towards the creation of new humanitarian aid centers ^[20] .

In St. Petersburg, the “White Flower” action is timed to coincide with the International Children's Day, which, with the support of the Government of St. Petersburg, has been held on an annual basis since 2012 ^[21] . The purpose of the action is to raise funds for seriously ill children and to draw public attention to the problems of oncology ^[22] .

Among the events of 2016, we can mention the charity concert of Dmitry Hvorostovsky , held in Moscow, whose fees are also intended to help children with cancer ^[23] .

The Russian Children's Fund coincides annual events in support of children with this date: on June 1, 2017, they were held for the 30th time. The program of Moscow events in 2017 included visits to the performances of Moscow theaters for more than 10,000 children of socially disadvantaged categories from 25 regions of Russia, the Lugansk People's Republic , South Ossetia and Abkhazia , as well as from five CIS countries . In addition, it was envisaged to present gifts to children who were being treated in a number of hospital institutions in the capital. The regional part of the program, organized by the forces of 74 departments of the fund, provided theatrical performances and gifts for more than 100,000 children ^[24] .
