Allan Melzer ( born Allan H. Meltzer ; February 6, 1928 , Boston - May 8, 2017 ) is an American economist . President of the Mon Pelerin Society (2012-2014).

Bachelor (1948) of Duke University, Master of Science ( 1955 ) and Ph.D. (1958) , University of California ( Los Angeles campus). He worked at the University of Pennsylvania (1956–57), Carnegie Institute of Technology (1957–1969), Carnegie Mellon University (from 1969 , from 1997 he occupied the chair of the professor of political economy in his own name). Winner of the Adam Smith Prize in two versions (1999 and 2003). A number of Meltzer’s articles have been published in the Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal , Financial Times , and others. President of the International Atlantic Economic Society (1999-2000).
