History
The first mention of the area and the settlement of Saint-Léonard refers to the XI century . The most ancient finds in the region are a stone monument in the Arsal vineyard ( fr. Arsal ), a bronze ring near the church and several graves belonging to the Hallstatt , Laten and Roman eras.
The name of the Holy Abbot Leonaire, whose name is called the commune, is mentioned in the list of the dead in the commune of Grange . At the beginning of the XII century, the Benedictine Ene ( fr. Aynai ), who were the pastors of Eihan And Granger, received rights from Lance And probably also to Saint-Léonard from the Chapter of Sion . They built houses and a chapel there.
On the bridge over the river Lien , which still connects Saint-Leonard with the village of Uvrier , an episcopal duty collection point was established. Two famous battles took place on this bridge: in 1375 Antoine de la Tour ( fr. Antoine de la Tour ) was defeated there, who had previously killed Guichard Tavelly , Bishop of Sion, and in April 1840, after several days of battle, the army of Ba-Vale defeated the army of O-Vale . This battle marked the end of the first civil war, caused by the revision of the constitution in 1839. [2]
