It is the administrative center of the Podgorodnensky city council, which, in addition, includes the village of Peremoga .

Geographical position

The city of Podgorodnoye is located on both banks of the Kilchen River [2] at its confluence with the Dnieper reservoir ( Samara River), the village of Peremoga is located 2 km upstream, the city of Novomoskovsk is located 4 km upstream of the Samara River, and lower along the river Samara at a distance of 3 km is the city of Dnieper .

The river in this place is winding, forms old people and swampy lakes.

History

St. John the Theological Church

The settlement arose at the beginning of the XVII century [2] .

After the founding of the city of Yekaterinoslav in 1776, in 1778, as a result of combining several farms, a settlement of Podgorodnaya appeared.

In 1898, the village of Podgorodnee was the volost center of the Novomoskovsk district of the Ekaterinoslav province of the Russian Empire , it had about 3600 inhabitants, about 590 yards, a zemstvo school, a parish school and several trading shops [3] .

In May 1934, an electric substation (connected to the Dnieper hydroelectric power station ) was built and commissioned here.

During the Great Patriotic War, at the end of August 1941, the village of Podgorodnoe was occupied by German troops , and on September 26, 1943, it was liberated by Soviet troops.

On November 9, 1959, the Rodina state farm was created here (in February 1965 it was reorganized into the Podgorodniy state farm).

In 1974, in the village. Podgorodnoe there were 20.6 thousand inhabitants, the farm "Podgorodniy" [4] acted.

In 1981, the village. Podgorodnoe was given the status of a city [2] [5] [6] .

In 1982, there were two state farms, a consumer services factory, a utility company factory, 5 comprehensive schools, a music school, a hospital, two houses of culture , a cinema, two libraries and a history museum of the Dnipropetrovsk region [2] .

On February 24, 1987, the southwestern housing estate was separated from the city of Podgorodnoye into a separate locality (urban settlement Yubileinoe ) [7] .

In January 1989, the population was19,219 people [8] , the largest enterprise was the greenhouse plant [6] .

In October 1992, the Podgorodniy state farm located here, the Dnepropetrovskplodooshpromprom association, was transferred to the ownership of the Dnipropetrovsk region [9] .

In July 1995, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a decision on the privatization of the Nizhnedneprovsky and Podgorodniy state farms located within the city limits [10] .

In July 2003, the buildings and facilities of military camp No. 76 were transferred to the municipal property of the city [11] .

As of January 1, 2013, the population was 19,498 people [12] .

Podgorodnoe practically merges with the city of the Dnieper and is its northern suburbs. The favorable location makes it attractive for wealthy citizens: some areas of the city are elite cottage villages.

Undercity is almost completely gasified (with the exception of several streets). It has a central water supply (serving 10% of the population).

Transport

Two railway lines of the Dnieper railway pass through the city:

  • Gayvoron - Balta line, where Podgorodnaya station is located here [2] [4] [5] [6]
  • Sukhachevka - Novomoskovsk line, where the Berezanovka junction (built in 1966) is located here.

There is a well-developed road network (roads M-04 , M-18 , E 50 , T-0410 ), the streets are partially asphalted (about 20%).

In 1992, a bus number 29 to the Podgorodnoe airport was operating from the center of Dnepropetrovsk.

Podgorodnoe Airport - since 1994, the airfield has been used only for agricultural aviation, emergency and training flights. Actually closed (currently not valid) .

Famous People

  • Koshel, Ivan Yakovlevich (1923-2002) - a participant in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, a full holder of the Order of Glory .
  • Shevchenko, Vladimir Pavlovich (1941) - Ukrainian mechanic, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor (1984), academician of NASU (04.1995), in 1986-2010 rector of Donetsk National University; Member of the Presidium of NASU (since 1996), was born in the city of Podgorodnoe .
