Yuri ( Spanish: Yuridia Valenzuela Canseco ; born January 6, 1964 ) is a Mexican singer and actress widely known in Latin America , who (according to Allmusic ) is "often called the Mexican Madonna ." [2]

Yuri made her debut in 1978 with the single “Tu Iluminas Mi Vida” (the Spanish version of “You Light Up My Life”) and the self-titled album. Her first Mexican hit was Esperanza, the title track of her second album. After the release of her third album, Llena de Dulzura (1981), Yuri became the first Latin American singer in history to receive a gold disc in Spain . The first great international success for the singer was brought by the single “Maldita Primavera”, the worldwide circulation of which exceeded one million. It was followed by a second smash hit, "El Pequeño Panda de Chapultepec." [2]
Three albums by Yuri - Aire (# 8, 1988), Soy Libre (# 10, 1991), Huellas (# 12, 1998) - were in the top twenty of the Billboard Latin Pop Albums Chart [3] Her three singles were “Que Te Pasa” (1988), Hombres Al Borde de un Ataque de Celos (1989) and Detras de Mi Ventana (1893) - topped the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks list. Among the famous films with the participation of Yuri - "Milagro en el Circo" (1979) and "Canta Chamo" (1985); in 1997, the biographical film Yuri, Mi Verdadera Historia was released. [2]
