Dean George Tanaka was born July 31, 1966 in Mount Clemens, Michigan in the family of actress Sharon Thomas (born June 3, 1946) and US Army Roger Tanaka. In the veins of Kane flows Japanese (from his paternal grandfather), Franco-Canadian , Irish and Welsh blood ^[1] . Dean has an older brother (now a musician) Roger. Parents of the future actor divorced before his birth. Much later, when Kane became popular, Roger in an interview with National Enquirer magazine said that Sharon left him when he was in the Vietnam War . In January 2001, Dean denied all this, saying that his father had never participated in this war, and that the reason for the divorce was that he cheated on Sharon.

In 1969, his mother married director Christopher Kane (born October 29, 1943), who adopted Dean and Roger. The family moved to Malibu , California ^{[2] [3]} . In 1973, the couple had a daughter - actress Chrisinda Kane. In his school years, Dean was actively involved in sports. He played for the school baseball team along with his brothers Chad and Rob Lowe , and Charlie Sheen , who were also his classmates. Dean graduated from high school in 1984, he was offered sports scholarships from 17 universities, but he chose Priston . At Princeton, he was the captain of the volleyball team, and also played as a defender in the American football team, where he made 12 interceptions in one season. He also starred in several films, including Broken Heart Club: Romantic Comedy (2000), Out of Time (2003), and Bailey Billions (2004). In 2004, he played Scott Peterson in the film Perfect Husband: The Laci Peterson Story, based on real-life events. He also periodically appeared in the series "Las Vegas" (2003-2008) in the role of Casey Manning. While studying at Princeton, Dean met two years with actress Brooke Shields ^[3] , who was a year older than him. In 1997, he began dating country singer Mindy McCready and in early 1998, the couple announced their engagement, but in July of the same year they split up.

In 1999, news appeared in the press about the pregnancy of Dean's long-time girlfriend, Model Samantha Torres. ^{[3] The} couple decided not to converge, but to share custody of the child. On June 11, 2000, Christopher Dean Kane, whom Dean named after his stepfather, was born.
