Hockley County

Hockley County is located in the United States , Texas . It was officially formed in 1876 and named after George Washington Hockley - Secretary of Defense of the Republic of Texas . As of 2000 , the population was 22,716. The district center is the city of Lowelland .

According to the United States Census Bureau , the county’s total area is 2,353 km², of which 2,352 km² are land and about 1 km² or 0.03% are water bodies.

Demographics

According to the 2000 census [1] , 22,716 residents lived in the okrug, consisting of 7,994 households and 6,091 families. The population density was 10 people per 1 square kilometer. There were 9148 residential buildings, with a density of 4 buildings per 1 square kilometer. By race, the population consisted of 74.38% White, 3.72% Black or African American , 0.82% Native American , 0.13% Asian, 0.04% Native Hawaiian and other Oceanian, 18.68% of other races , and 2.22% are representatives of two or more races. 37.24% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

Of 7994 households, 38.1% raised children under the age of 18 years, 60.4% of married couples living together, 11.5% of single women, 23.8% did not have families. At the time of the census, 21.2% of the total number lived on their own, 10% of people over 65 who lived alone. On average, each household accounted for 2.77 people, the average family size was 3.22 people.

The indicators for age categories in the district were as follows: 29.1% residents under 18 years old, 11.8% from 18 to 24 years old, 25.9% from 25 to 44 years old, 20.6% from 45 to 64 years old, and 12 , 6% over 65 years. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there are 96.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.2 males.
