Uffalis (fr. Houffalize ) is a city and commune in Belgium .
Geography
The Uffalis municipality is located in the Bastogne district of Luxembourg , in the southeast of the country, near the border with Luxembourg .
The town is located in the Ardennes on the East Urt River . The territory included in the commune is a forest-covered valley, alternating with mountains.
The area of the commune is 166.58 km². The population is 4.749 people (as of January 1, 2006 ).
History
The first written mention of Uffalis dates back to 1147 . In 1235 , a hospital was built here. During the years of World War II , from December 25, 1944 to January 6, 1945 , during the Ardennes operation, there were heavy battles of the allies with German troops, as a result of which Uffalis was almost completely destroyed.
