Azerbaijani Germans or Germans of Azerbaijan ( Azerb. Azərbaycan almanları ) - ethnic Germans who lived in Azerbaijan , and their direct descendants.
In modern Germany, the expression " Russian Germans " ( German: Russlanddeutsche ) is also used to refer to ethnic Germans repatriated to Germany from the USSR , starting in 1951, and after 1991 to repatriates from post-Soviet states. [1] There is also an expression of Caucasian Germans ( German: Kaukasiendeutsche ), by which Germans of the Transcaucasian region are designated.

The origin of the German settlements of Azerbaijan
The resettlement of Germans , mainly from Swabia , to Azerbaijan took place in 1819. In the spring of 1819, the Germans founded two colonies: Elenendorf and Annenfeld (now these are the cities of Goygol and Shamkir [2] [3] ). After some time, six more colonies were founded - Grinfeld , Traubenfeld , Elizavetinka , Eigenfeld , Georgsfeld , Alekseevka . The colonies of Azerbaijan were connected economically and culturally, the unofficial center was Helenendorf, which was the largest German colony in the Caucasus [4] . Despite the cultural and linguistic differences, the Germans and local peoples were in close contact in the cultural and economic spheres.
Genesis
Most Germans were peasants who, in a new place, were engaged in traditional agriculture. They created diversified commodity agriculture and occupied their niche in the capitalist economic system of the Russian Empire . The Germans influenced the emergence and development of certain branches of the economy in the Caucasus, and contributed to the spread of new or improved implements of labor and advanced management methods.
