The secondary special music school named after E. Koki is the only special music school in Moldova for gifted children. It was founded in 1945 by David Grigorievich Gershfeld . The training took place in Moldavian (classes "A") and in Russian (classes "B") languages, both musical and general subjects. In 1990, according to the linguistic principle, the Koki School was divided into two musical lyceums - the Lyceum named after Ciprian Porumbescu (in the old building, teaching in Moldavian language) and the Lyceum named after Sergei Vasilievich Rachmaninov (in the building in the center of Chisinau, teaching in Russian).
