Satellite - the early Soviet artificial Earth satellites (AES) of various devices and purposes. They were used for experiments to bring payload into near-Earth space, to study the effect of weightlessness and radiation on living creatures, experiments to study the properties of the Earth’s atmosphere , and to prepare for the first manned space flight.

Sputnik Space Program
Under the program, the Soviet Union planned and put into orbit several spacecraft . The launch of the first satellite took place on October 4, 1957 as part of the international geophysical year .
Satellites known as "Sputnik"
The names "Sputnik-1 ... 10" are unofficial and invented by journalists.

- Sputnik-6 - The Third Sputnik Ship, Vostok-1 No. 3 - Vostok series, December 1, 1960
- Sputnik-7-1 - “No ship-satellite”, Vostok-1 No. 4 - Vostok series, December 22, 1960 . Launch accident, suborbital flight.
- Sputnik-7 - “Heavy satellite 01”. The first Soviet launch to Venus . Bundle of emergency upper stage and Venusian probe remaining in near-Earth orbit, February 4, 1961
- Sputnik-8 - “Heavy Satellite 02”, one of the names for the Venera-1 AMC and used upper stage, February 12, 1961
- Sputnik-9 - The Fourth Sputnik Ship, Vostok-3 No. 1 - Vostok series, March 9, 1961
- Sputnik-10 - Fifth Sputnik Ship, Vostok-3 No. 2 - Vostok series, March 25, 1961
In his book "Missiles and People" [1] Chertok B. E. gives another numbering of the spacecraft-satellites:
- Sputnik-4 - “The first satellite ship”. East -1K.
- Sputnik 5-1 - "The second satellite ship." East -1K No. 1.
- Sputnik 5 - The Third Sputnik Ship. East -1K No. 2.
- Sputnik-6 - “The fourth satellite ship”. East -1K No. 5.
- Sputnik 7-1 - The Fifth Sputnik Ship. East -1K No. 6.
- Sputnik-9 - The Sixth Spaceship.
- Sputnik-10 - The Seventh Spaceship. East -3KA (three-KA).
