Biography
The son of a merchant. He studied at the Moscow Practical Academy of Commercial Sciences (1816-1821). At the end of her three years he served in the banking office of an English merchant John Pickersgil (1775-1841) [3] .
He made his debut on stage in 1824 . He was the first performer of the role of Khlestakov at the premiere in Moscow of the comedy by N.V. Gogol "The Examiner "; He gave the image a vaudeville interpretation.
He wrote about a hundred dramatic works and opera libretto . For his own plays, he borrowed stories from French plays, saturating them with everyday details from the life of Russian merchants, philistines, and provincial actors. Vaudevilles of Lensky (over 70) were distinguished by their scenic nature, rapid course of action, incredible situations, and skillful use of the methods of “rude comedian”, puns and wit. Published "Opera and Vaudeville, translations from French" (parts 1-4, 1835-1836).
The best vaudevilles of Lensky (“ Lev Gurych Sinichkin, or Provincial Debutant ”, production of 1839 , and others) have long been in the main repertoire of the Russian theater.
The author of the libretto of A. N. Verstovsky ’s opera The Stormbreaker ( 1854 , production 1857 ).
One of the first translators of P.J. Beranger in Russia. The poem “Give alms to her”, to which the composer Alexander Alyabyev composed music, became most famous. This is how the Beggar romance turned out, the successful performers of which were Galina Kareva , Zhanna Bichevskaya , Lyudmila Gurchenko , Eduard Gil , Alexander Malinin , Tamara Kalinkina and many other artists.
He was buried at the Vagankovsky cemetery (6 academic year).
