Wood County is the county of Texas in the United States of America . For 2000, there lived 36 752 people. According to the US Census Bureau, in 2008 the county’s population was 42 641 people. [1] The county seat is Quitman . Wood County is one of Texas’s 46 “dry” counties, that is, counties that have a “dry law.”

History
Wood County was formed in 1850 from part of Van Zand County. It was named after George Tyler Wood , the second governor of Texas. [2]
