Adab (city)

Ancient Mesopotamia

Adab (modern Bismay ) is a city and town in the south of Ancient Mesopotamia .

Adab did not play any significant role in the history of Sumer , although this city, located halfway between Nippur and Lagash , was quite rich. At the end of the first half of the III millennium BC. e. Adab reached its peak. Important trade and strategic routes crossed here, and therefore power over this city put its owners in a privileged position. Even the hegemonic king Mesalim in his inscriptions dated the events, as was customary in the Sumerian tradition, to the years of the rule of Ensie Adab. The community goddess Adaba was Dingirmah .
