Paley, Albert

Albert Paley ( English Albert Paley , 1944 , Philadelphia , PA , USA ) is an American sculptor , known for extravagant, organic, often reminiscent of the Art Nouveau style , metal works. The creativity of this sculptor combines art and craft.

Biography and Creativity

Albert Paley was born in 1944 in Philadelphia, was educated at the Tyler School of Art in the same place. Paley first worked as a jeweler in New York , then moved to Rochester (New York) in 1969 to teach at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Paley's first representative sculpture, Animals Always, is located in the southeastern part of St. Louis Zoological Park.

By order of public and private corporations, Paley has created more than 50 works. Notable examples are the Smithsonian Institution’s Renwick Gallery Gate in Washington, the Albany Senate Gate, New York’s monumental sculpture for the federal building in Asheville, and the AT&T sculpture in Atlanta. Recently completed work includes a 40-ton sculpture for Adobe Systems in San Jose , a gate for the new San Francisco courthouse, a gate to the main entrance of the Naples Museum of Art, and sculptural relief for Wellington Place , Toronto .

His works are in permanent collections in more than 30 museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts , the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Toledo Museum, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the British Museum.
