Kazimir-Rafail Karlovich Kostrovitsky , better known under the pseudonym Karus Kaganets ( Belorussian. Kazimir-Rafal Karlavich Kastravitsky - Karus Kaganets ; February 10, 1868 - May 20, 1918) - Belarusian poet and public figure of the beginning of the XX century . A relative of the famous French poet Guillaume Apollinaire [1] .

Born in Tobolsk in the family of Karl Kostrovitsky, exiled for participating in the 1863 uprising in Siberia . In 1874, the family returned to their homeland, in the Minsk province . He studied at the Minsk City School, at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture . He began to engage in literary activity in 1893 . In 1902 - 1903 he participated in the creation of the BSG . In 1905 and 1910 he was arrested. In 1910 - 1911 he was in a Minsk prison with Yakub Kolas . In prison, his health deteriorated significantly, and in recent years Kaganets moved away from active work.
Kaganets collaborated with the main printing organ of the Belarusian national-cultural movement, the newspaper Nasha Niva . In 1906, Kaganets anonymously published the textbook “ Belarus Lemantar Abershaya Navuka Chytannya ”. The vaudeville written by Kaganets “Fashionable Gentry” became one of the first works of Belarusian dramaturgy . “ Fashionable Shlyakhtsyuk ” was popular for a long time and was repeatedly put on stage.
One of the streets of Minsk is named after Karusya Kaganets [2]
