Biography
Louis was born approx. 940 and was the son of Count Bigorra Raimund I Date , who died in 956.
The chronology of continuity in the county of Bigorr in the second half of the 10th century is still not precisely established by historians. In a charter given to Louis in 960 by the monastery of Saint-Savin-de-Lavedan, he is named the successor of his father [1] . This is confirmed by other documents signed by this column. However, in the Charter dated 983, the reliability of which is now seriously questioned by historians, the brother of Louis Arnault I was named Earl of Bigorre. Therefore, some historians suggest that Count Raimund I was succeeded by Arno I, who died around 985, and Louis succeeded him [2] [3] .
Around 965, Louis married his second cousin Amernaya (Anerma), possibly the daughter of Viscount Lavedan Aner Mans . Since marriages between close relatives were forbidden by the church, Count Bigorra bribed Bishop Bigorra Amelia to give him permission to marry, transferring him the land ownership of Beussens. Later, Amelius repented of his deed and gave these lands to the monastery of Saint-Ourense-de-Lavedan, but the marriage was never dissolved [4] .
The childless Earl of Louis died around 1000. The next Earl of Bigorra was his nephew Garcia Arno , son of Arno I [1] .
