Biography

Born on August 20 ( September 1 ), 1890 in the village of Sergievsky (now the city of Plavsk , Tula Region ). He received his first elementary education in the village, having graduated from a four-year school. In 1909, externally passed the high school exam, in August he entered the mechanical department of the Imperial Moscow Technical School . After graduating from college in January 1916 with a degree in Internal Combustion Engines, he was left at the Department of Automobiles and Light Engines. In July 1916 he was sent to England for the purchase and acceptance of cars and motorcycles for the All-Russian Zemstvo Union , which participated in supplying the army with armament and equipment. In March 1918 he returned to Russia and was immediately invited to the Auto Center, and then to the Central Auto Section of the Supreme Economic Council as head of the laboratory department. On November 15, 1918 he was transferred to the post of assistant head of the Scientific Automobile Laboratory (NAL) in the scientific and technical department (ONT) of the Supreme Economic Council.

At that time in Russia there was only one automobile plant , which worked on imported parts. EA Chudakov made a proposal to the Supreme Economic Council of the RSFSR to create a research base for the automotive industry . The proposal was accepted and soon he and his students created the theory of the car, and then the theory of stability and controllability of the car was developed. EA Chudakov made a great contribution to the development of calculation systems: heating the clutch mechanism , calculating the brakes for heating, calculating the cardan mechanism and gearing, which ensures minimal wear of gears.

EA Chudakov began to critically examine the state of all mechanical engineering in the state and asked to create an institution that could unite all branches of mechanical engineering : the theory of machines and mechanisms, wear of parts, design and calculation of machine parts, and technology of mechanical engineering.

Since 1918, he began to teach (lectured on automotive subjects) and at the same time paid great attention to practical knowledge and skills.

He introduced a sound film course on the car, which opened up great opportunities for visual aid of thermal and mechanical processes.

He was chairman of the All-Union Council of Scientific Engineering and Technical Societies, chairman of the editorial board of the encyclopedic directory "Engineering" , a member of the editorial board of TSB , a deputy of the Moscow City Council . He participated in the commissions that examined specific issues of the automotive industry, for example, the ZIS-101 car.

From 1936 to 1938 - head of the department "Cars" (after the reorganization - "Cars and Tractors") of the Moscow Automobile and Tractor Institute named after MV Lomonosov . [2]

In 1939 he was elected a full member of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

Vice President of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1939-1942. One of the founders and first director of the Institute of Mechanical Engineering of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1938).

He was buried in Moscow at the Novodevichy cemetery (plot number 1).

The son of E. A. Chudakov is the famous physicist Chudakov, Alexander Evgenievich (1921-2001).
