Zhukovskaya, Lidia Petrovna

In 1941 she graduated from the philological faculty of the Moscow City Pedagogical Institute .

Scientific activity in 1943 began under the guidance of Professor R.I. Avanesov . She worked on the Atlas of Russian Folk Dialects.

In 1947 - 1988 he was a researcher at the Institute of the Russian Language of the USSR Academy of Sciences .

In 1953 she defended her thesis “ From the History of the Language of North-Eastern Russia in the Mid-XIV Century ”.

Since 1951, after the appearance of birch-bark letters in the scientific circulation, it began to study them. She studied Russian handwritten Gospels - Apracos and Prologs , prepared editions of Mstislavov and the Archangel Gospels (the second was published after her death). Under her leadership, in 1984, the Consolidated Catalog of Slavic-Russian manuscript books stored in the USSR: XI-XIII centuries was published.

In 1970 she defended her doctoral dissertation " Old Russian parchment manuscripts as a linguistic source: Archaeographic, textological and linguistic research ."

Since 1988 - senior, then chief research fellow of the Manuscripts Department of the USSR State Library named after V.I. Lenin (since 1992 - the Russian State Library).

In 1988, along with a number of employees of the Sector of Bibliography, Source Studies and Publication of Monuments of the Institute of the Russian Language for her creative contribution to solving the problem “Study of the monuments of ancient Russian writing and the development of rules for their linguistic publication”, she was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR in the field of science and technology ^[1] .

She participated in the creation of the Department of the History of the Russian Language and Dialectology of the Pomor State University named after M.V. Lomonosov in Arkhangelsk , in the 1990s she gave lectures on paleography and taught special courses on Old Russian writing. Under her leadership, 11 master's theses were defended.

L.P. Zhukovskaya, dealing with the textology of the ancient Russian Gospels and the history of the development of paleography in Russia, drew attention to the close interconnection of letters and decorations in manuscripts, to the significance of literal and exciteral characters in solving the problem of dating of written monuments. The rules of the archaeographic description of manuscripts developed by her and the principles of the publication of ancient Russian texts are presented in methodological articles and methodical publications of the Archeographic Commission. L.P. Zhukovskaya also considered issues of filigranology. The focus of her scientific attention was the problem of falsification of written monuments and the exposure of one of the most famous fakes, which became known to the world public in the second half of the 20th century, Veles book .
