Baxter County is located in northern Arkansas on the border with the state of Missouri and is often called the “two lakes district” because it is located between the two largest lakes in the state: Lake Norfolk and Lake Bull-Shoals .
The capital of the county, Mountain Home, ranks second in the Hunters and Fishermen magazine Field and Stream on the list of the best US cities for fishermen, partly because of this, Baxter County is now known primarily as a worthy place to live for retirees, as well as recreation for local vacations.
