The district was formed in 1848 from parts of the districts of Chico , Drew , Union and got its name from the former US Senator from Arkansas Chester Ashley . There is a ban on the production, sale, and consumption of alcohol in the district , which is why Ashley County is on the list of so-called “dry districts”.
