Beverly Pepper ( born Beverly Pepper ; born December 20, 1922 , New York ) is an American sculptor and abstract artist . Beverly Pepper is known for totem figures, steel sculptures, mirror works, and land art (the Amphisculpture series, 1947-1976). Lives and works in New York ( USA ) and Todi ( Italy ).

Biography
Beverly Pepper was born December 20, 1922 in New York. At sixteen, she entered the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York to study advertising design, photography, and industrial design. She studied in the League of Art Students of New York and attended evening classes at Brooklyn College, studied art theory with György Kepes, who introduced her to the works of Laszlo Mohoy Nagy and Man Ray . She began her career as a commercial artist in New York before switching to painting and sculpture . She later studied in Paris (since 1949) with Fernand Leger and Andre Lot . She studied painting at the Academy de la Grande-Chaumiere . She also attended the studios of Osip Zadkine and Brancusi . Since 1951, she lived in Rome and its environs. Since 1960, she switched from painting to wood carving and working with clay and bronze , and from 1961 she began welding.
Pepper's works are kept in major museums and galleries around the world.
