Tsaohai Lake ( Chinese р 湖 пал , pall : Tsaohai hu , literally: “Sea of Grass”) is a natural reservoir located on the territory of Weinin-i-Hui-Miao Autonomous County of Bijie County, Guizhou Province of the People’s Republic of China . Since 1985, the area around the lake has been a reserve of provincial significance, and since 1992 - a reserve of national importance.

Initially, the mirror area of the lake was over 4,500 km², but due to climatic changes and intense human activity, it has now been reduced to only 5 km². The average depth of the lake is about 2 m, it is located at an altitude of 2,200 m above sea level. Its catchment area is 120 km².
The Tsaohai Lake area is the largest and most important wetland region of southwestern China, where the black-necked crane overwinters. The lake also has 184 species of birds, including such as the gray crane , black crane , white stork , black stork , mountain goose , golden eagle, burial eagle , white-tailed eagle and fire-dog .
The river Getszehe originates from the lake .
